Senior Thesis Project Exhibition

The Senior Thesis Project for the Visual Communication program at Arizona State University is a synthesis of work allowing students to research a social issue and create impactful designs to raise awareness on the topic. During the Spring semester, all students were tasked with creating a poster to be used for branding the Senior Exhibition at the end of the year, displaying all of the Seniors' thesis projects.

The poster is meant to encapsulate all social issues and create an overarching theme for the exhibition. The Unfolding design and custom designed font represents how all students revealed or exposed each social issue, bringing light to information to spread awareness.

My poster was chosen out of 78 students' designs to represent the Online Senior Exhibition.

Project Objectives

Create a compelling exhibition poster that unifies diverse social issue themes into a singular, impactful design, serving as the foundation for the event’s branding.

Design a polished and conceptually strong visual system that represents the Senior Thesis Exhibition, the Graphic Design program, and Arizona State University.

Utilize research, typographic manipulation, and conceptual storytelling to craft a visual narrative that encourages engagement with the exhibition.

Initial Ideas

I started the design process by mindmapping themes to serve as the foundation for the visual identity of the Senior exhibition. I then sketched thumbnail concepts, refining and expanding on each brainstormed idea.

Digital Sketches

After sketching out my ideas, I selected the strongest concepts and refined them digitally in Adobe Illustrator, making technical adjustments along the way.

Ah-hah! Moment

Initially, I expected one of the two previous ideas to work well, but further exploration and sketching led me to a stronger solution—a typographic-only poster featuring my custom typeface design based on unfolding letterforms. This approach felt more intentional, with every element serving a purpose.
